Ceremonial Drums from Siberia

From the vast and remote landscapes of Central Asia that reach North into Siberia come exceptionally hand-crafted drums made by native, Sergey Charkov and family. These drums are produced with local, natural materials in the way ceremonial power drums have been made for thousands of years.

Based in the capital city of Abakan in the Republic of Khakassia, Russia, Sergey and his family are devoted to keeping ancient indigenous traditions alive through the study, production, and performance of musical instruments, songs and practices.

Large Oval Drum – natural, wood-Y-handle

Goatskin head, wood frame and leather ties, this drum has natural skin on the front and a Y-shaped wooden handle on the back. Includes 2 handcrafted beaters – one made from wood (carved, stained, rectangular) and fur (faux) and one made from wood, wrapped in leather, with fur padding (real). Includes custom-made carrying case (dark green).

Dimensions: 26″ tall x 19″ wide x 3.5″ deep

Goatskin head, wood frame and leather ties, this drum has natural skin on the front and a cross-shaped metal (hand-carved, feathered) handle on the back. Includes 2 handcrafted beaters – one made from wood (carved, stained, leaf-shaped) and fur (faux) and one made from wood, wrapped in leather, with a built-in rattle. Includes custom-made carrying case (black).
